our retreats

Susan’s Retreats take place at some of New England’s loveliest resorts and inns, located in settings of natural beauty - near the ocean, mountains or lakeside. Our retreats are carefully planned to provide a rejuvenating dose of essential peace and positive focus for breast cancer patients and a companion of their choice, in an environment of carefree comfort.

Every effort is made to create the ideal experience for each recipient’s desires and needs. Whether the retreat is just time to relax and reflect, or time to enjoy recreational activities, or simply just time to rest, is up to each individual. Our aim is to give recipients a time away from doctor’s appointments and treatments, and a chance to have a getaway where their primary identity is not necessarily that of a cancer patient.

Stays include breakfast, dinner, and a spa treatment (where available). All arrangements, including reservations, meals and spa treatments, are booked and pre-paid by Susan’s Retreat. Recipients provide their own transportation, though special arrangements can be made when necessary. Locations are within a 3.5 hour driving range of the Metro-Boston area.

how recipients are chosen

Recipients are referred to Susan’s Retreat through social workers at hospitals and cancer support groups in the Metro Boston area. Our referring partners include the Virginia Thurston Healing Garden and the Cambridge Breast Center.

Susan’s Retreat has a finite number of retreats to grant per year, and our retreats are selectively given to individuals who could not stay at a resort for 2-3 days using their own resources.

At this time, Susan’s Retreat is not accepting direct applications for retreats. If you know someone who would benefit from a Susan’s Retreat, we welcome inquiries from their social worker (from any major Metro-Boston hospital or cancer support group). Please contact us.
